Shemaroo’s digital revenues up 40.8% YoY to Rs 33.1 crores in Q3-FY18

Shemaroo’s digital media revenues stood Rs 33.1 crores for the quarter ended December 2017 (Q3FY18), up 40.8% from 23.5 crores in Q3FY17. In the preceding quarter, the company reported digital media revenues of Rs 34.2 crores, so this is a marginal 3% QoQ decline.

Shemaroo’s net profit after tax stood at Rs. 17.8 crores for the quarter, down 4.8 crores month on month, and up 23.6%% YoY. Traditional Media vs New Media

Traditional media revenue rose by 7.6% YoY to Rs 99.5 crores from Rs 90 crores in Q3-FY17.

Revenue from digital media made up 24.9% of the total down from 25.44% from Q2, but still higher than the 20.7% for Q3 last year.

Founded in 1962, Shemaroo Entertainment provides services including content creation, aggregation, and distribution with a content library of over 3400 titles. The company distributes content for satellite channels, telecom operators, sells physical format CDs and streams content on digital mediums like mobile, Internet, broadband, IPTV and DTH, among others.

 

Shemaroo on YouTube

Shemaroo claims that it was clocking almost 550 million monthly views on YouTube by the end of December 2017, up substantially from around 400 million by the end of September. At the end of June, this number stood at 350 million and had risen to 400 million at the end of September.

The company also claims to have crossed 5 million subscribers on its primary Youtube channel ShemarooENT, which it crossed 2 billion cumulative views for last quarter.

It said it crossed 2 billion cumulative views on its YouTube channel FilmiGaane.

The company reiterated that “Some brands have pulled their advertising out from YouTube since some of their ads were shown next to hateful and offensive content. As a result, YouTube has implemented stricter brand safety guidelines and therefore the overall monetisation of content on Youtube has been impacted.“

Last quarter, it had said something similar, albeit that YouTube had “stopped monetizing certain videos”, instead of “the overall monetisation of content on Youtube has been impacted.”

Content Deals

During the quarter, Shemaroo signed content deals with Vuclip and Spuul.
