Shemaroo adds more movie titles for video streaming platform Spuul

Bollywood aggregation and production firm Shemaroo Entertainment has signed another catalogue deal with Spuul after one year of its previous deal. As part of the deal, Spuul will offer 100 movies from Shemaroo like Anand, Masoom, Chupke Chupke, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Jab We Met, amongst others. The deal seems to be the renewal of its previous deal, which was for 70-movie deal.

Spuul did not reveal its current user base, however last year it claimed to have 12 million users across India, South-East Asia, UK, US, Australia & New Zealand and the Middle East. The online video streaming company has tie-ups with content providers like UTV-Disney, Yashraj Films, Reliance Entertainment, Balaji Telefilms, Indiacast, B4U, Venus and Rajshri for its regional content library.

Note that Shemaroo has its own YouTube channel on which it has about 4.8 million subscribers. Besides its own channel on the platform, it has content deals with other OTT players like Airtel Digital TV, HOOQ, Magna Publishing Company, amongst others.

Founded in 1962, Shemaroo Entertainment provides services including content creation, aggregation, and distribution with a content library of over 3400 titles. The company distributes content for satellite channels, telecom operators, sells physical format CDs and streams content on digital mediums like mobile, Internet, broadband, IPTV and DTH, among others.

Shemaroo’s new media biz

The company reported new media revenues increase of 41.7%  in Q1FY18 with Rs 28.53 crores, up from 20.15 crores in Q1-FY17.  The new media stream accounted for 27.8% of Shemaroo’s overall operating income in Q1FY18, and the company said that the entry of OTT players in the country is helping Shemaroo to grow its news media revenues.
