Google Tez gets 7.5M users, over 30M transactions in five weeks

Google Tez has reported over 7.5 million users and 30 million transactions in five weeks, since its launch on September 18th 2017, Caesar Sengupta, VP (Next Billion Users) at the company disclosed yesterday. Sengupta was referencing a recent MediaNama story, where we reported that UPI had 16.6 million transactions in August 2017 alone. Read it here

Learnings from PayPal results: P2P payments, credit and acquisitions

Global payments company PayPal reported 218 million active customer accounts for the quarter ended September 2017 (Q3-2017). This was an increase of 13.51% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis. The company added that the number of new active accounts was 8.2 million nearly an increase of 90% YoY in the quarter, from 4.4 million. Read it here

Payments via PayPal to get more expensive tomorrow as it applies GST

PayPal will be levying the Goods and Services Tax (GST) starting from tomorrow to any individual, merchant or entity in India, regardless whether it is a business or individual account. However, it needs to be pointed out that the GST of 18% will be levied only on the PayPal fee, not the purchase amount, the company said in its FAQs. Read it here

UCWeb launches its mobile marketing platform UC Ads in India

Alibaba Group-owned mobile business platform UCWeb has launched its mobile marketing platform UC Ads in India, reports PTI. Businesses will now be able to utilise UC Ads’ content marketing solutions to reach users across platforms such as UC Browser, UC News and 9Apps. Read it here

Info Edge reports net profit of Rs 78.55 crore on the back expenditure control

Info Edge, which runs multiple Internet companies such as Naukri, Jeevansathi, and 99Acres, has reported a net profit of Rs 78.55 crore for the quarter ended September 2017(Q2 FY18). Net profit was down 1.89% from Rs 80.07 crore in the same quarter last year. Read it here

57% of Domino’s Pizza delivery orders are online orders

Jubilant Foodworks, the company which operates Domino’s Pizza and Dunkin Donuts in India, reported (pdf) that online orders contributed around 57% of delivery sales for the quarter ended September 30, 2017 (Q2 FY18). This is up from a 43% online ordering share in the same quarter last year. Read it here

Refurbished products store Overcart removes product listings; employees look for jobs

Overcart, an e-commerce marketplace for over-stock, unboxed, refurbished, and pre-owned products, as of yesterday, had a notice up saying that it is currently only accepting bulk orders, and customers appear to be complaining about not having received products that they had ordered. Info Edge increases its stake in MeritNation to 65.67%

Info Edge (India) through its wholly-owned subsidiary has infused Rs 37.93 crore in Applect Learning Systems, which runs the e-learning site MeritNation, the company informed BSE. With this investment, Info Edge has increased its stake to 65.67% in Applect from the earlier 56%. Read it here

Apple’s India revenues doubled YoY & iPad unit sales grew 39% YoY in Q4 2017

Apple’s revenue from India doubled year-on-year (YoY) for the quarter ended September 30, 2017 (Q4 2017), Apple CEO Tim Cook said during the company’s earnings call. CFO Luca Maestri added that the company returned to growth in greater China in this quarter, where revenues increased 12% YoY.
