The four payments banks hold Rs 236.5 crore in deposits: report

The four functional payments banks (PB) in the country had demand deposits of Rs 236.45 crore at the end of September 30, BloombergQuint reports. Demand deposits refer to money in savings and current accounts. Read it here

PayPal integrates micro-investing app Acorns in the US; India situation

PayPal is looking to extend its services from payments and is taking a stab at investing. The company has integrated micro-investing app Acorns which allows users to invest their spare change in exchange-traded funds. Note that this is only for users in the United States and PayPal has not said if it will be offered to customers in other countries. Read it here

Amazon Prime Video signs deal with AMC Studios

Amazon has signed a deal with AMC Studios to broadcast it shows first on Amazon Prime Video in 28 territories including India before they will be available on any other channel. As part of the deal, Amazon Prime will have first window rights to select new AMC series as well as second run rights in many other countries across the globe, Amazon said in a statement. Swiggy expands to Ahmedabad, charges delivery fee

Swiggy has expanded its food ordering and delivery service in Ahmedabad, after Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. It currently delivers across areas such as Prahladnagar, Vastrapur, and Navrangpura in Ahmedabad, and have partnered with around 300 restaurants in the city currently. Read it here

Uber breach last year affected over 57M riders and drivers

Late Tuesday, online cab-hailing service Uber reported a security breach in the company’s systems which occurred in October 2016. The breach affected both riders and drivers and the breach affected 57 million riders personal information such as names, email addresses, and phone numbers were compromised. Read it here

Maharashtra govt to decide on minimum and maximum fares for Ola and Uber: reports

The Maharashtra government told the Bombay high court that it will be deciding to fix both minimum and maximum fares for app-based taxi companies such as Ola and Uber, as per this Press Trust of India (PTI) report. The state government that it would take the recommendations of an expert committee in the Nagpur assembly session. Read it here

Eros Now has 3.7 million paid subscribers; Digital revenues grows 42% to $20.6M

Eros Now’s paid subscriber base stood at 3.7 million users at the end of September 30 (Q2FY18). Eros said that the number of paid subscribers increased 70% from 2.1 million users on March 31 (Q4FY17). The total number of registered users stood at 75 million. Read it here

Paytm Payments Bank gets infusion of Rs 122 crore: Report

Paytm’s parent One97 Communications and its founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma have infused Rs 122 crore into Paytm Payments Bank, reports Times of India. The publication said that development was found in the ministry of corporate affairs’ filings.  Read it here

Uber disclosed the data breach to Softbank before revealing it to the public

Online cab-hailing company Uber says that it has disclosed details of the data breach in October 2016 to potential investor SoftBank Group before revealing it to the public earlier this week. Last month, reports said that Uber was in talks with SoftBank for a potential investment. The company said that at the time it did disclose the data breach to the potential investor even though “information at the time was preliminary and incomplete.” Read it here

HT Media is done with cost optimization; To hive off digital biz into new listed entity

HT Media reported a net profit of Rs 66 crore despite a decline in advertising revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2017 (Q2 FY18), up 113% from Rs 31 crore in the same quarter last year. This oddity – significant increase in net profit despite decline in ad revenue – is partly because the company continues to reduce its expenses every quarter. Read it here
