Idea Cellular increases its mobile internet subscribers marginally QoQ to 38.2 million

Idea Cellular lost a total of 15.87 million mobile Internet connections during the quarter ended September 2017 (Q2FY18), down 29.25% to 38.195 million from 54.06 million connections in the same quarter last year. However, on a sequential basis, the number of mobile Internet connections increased marginally from 38.122 million. Read it here

JustDial earnings call: headcount reduction, vernacular languages, messaging etc

Online classifieds company and local search company JustDial reported a net profit of Rs 37.5 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2FY18), an increase of 26.5% YoY. This quarter, the company reduced its headcount from 11,262 last quarter to 10,892, a decline of 3%. JustDial’s management discussed the reasons for the same and its future plans. Read it here

Zomato Gold crosses 26,000 subscribers on launch date

Zomato Gold, the paid subscription product from Zomato, which allows users to get complimentary food or drinks at around 1200 restaurants in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai, has crossed 26000 subscribers*, just around seven-eight hours since launch, as per MediaNama estimates. Read it here

Idea Cellular’s Mobile Internet Business In Charts – Q2FY18

For the quarter ending September 2017, Idea Cellular reported that it has 38.2 million mobile Internet connections, and the total number of connections has been declining for the company, since the quarter ended December 2016: the quarter in which Reliance Jio launched. What is changing for Idea Cellular, however, is the nature of the connections: there has been a decline in 2G and 3G connections, and a growth in 4G. A switch might be in progress. Read it here

News18’s website is live with Bengali, Urdu, and Gujarati

News18’s website is now live in Bengali, Urdu and Gujarati languages as it starts its push into other vernacular languages. News18 went live in Hindi at the end of December 2016 (Q3FY17) as it rebranded the earlier website khabar.ibnlive.in.com. In the following quarter (Q3FY17), parent company Network18 said that it would merge Pradesh18.com, the vernacular language website, into News18 umbrella. Read it here

Yatra losses increase to Rs 77.74 crore as marketing and personnel expenses mount

Online travel company, Yatra.com posted losses Rs 77.74 crore for the quarter ended September 2017 (Q2FY18). Losses at the company expanded from Rs 4.83 crore in the preceding quarter and from Rs 41.9 crore in the same quarter last year. Read it here

ICICI Bank and Paytm partner for short term credit for users; MediaNama’s take

ICICI Bank and Paytm have partnered to offer short-term credit to users. The credit given to customers will be interest-free for 45 days and the bank says that it will give loans up to Rs 20,000. Initially, this will be allowed for select ICICI Bank customers who are on Paytm and will be extended to other bank customers as well who use Paytm. Read it here

Total number of POS machines grew to 2.9M with a growth of 93% in September 2017

The number of point of sale(POS) machines have been increased to 2.9 million, up 93% from 1.48 million as compared to last year, according to data published by RBI. Note that the RBI data only shows machine statistics from banks and does not include the number devices from third-party players like MSwipe, Ezetap, ItzCash and Oxigen. Read it here

American Express adds BharatQR on its AmexPay app

Card network American Express has added BharatQR to its Amex Pay app joining other card networks Visa, Mastercard and RuPay. On the Google Play Store and the iTunes app store, American Express updated the app on November 8 to add BharatQR capabilities. Read it here

Matrimony.com reports 64% growth in net profit with Rs 19.16cr in Q2FY18

Matrimony.com Limited, which runs BharatMatrimony has posted its first quarterly result for its second quarter FY18 ending September 30, 2017, after its IPO two months ago. The company has posted consolidated revenue of Rs 83.7 crore for the quarter, representing a growth of 13.7 % compared to Rs 73.6 crore the same quarter previous year. Read it here
