India Today Group, which runs news channels like Aaj Tak and publishes magazines like India Today, has appointed Vivek Khanna as its new group CEO. India Today Group’s founder and editor-in-chief Aroon Purie announced the appointment in an email, which was sent to India Today Group employees. MediaNama has reviewed a copy of the email.

Khanna fills in the position vacated by Ashish Kumar Bagga in August, who had resigned from his post citing personal reasons.

In the email, Purie writes that Vivek will report to Kalli Purie, who was named India Today Group’s new vice chairperson last month and replaced her father, Aroon Purie. Khanna began his career with Hindustan Unilever and Aviva Life Insurance. He moved to HT Media in 2008. Since 2013, he was serving as CEO of Hindustan Media Ventures Limited. Khanna has also served as  Business Head of Mint. During his stint, Vivek also launched MintAsia in Singapore, Aroon Purie wrote in his mail.  Khanna hold a degree of MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. He has not yet updated his new position in his Linkedin profile.
