Amazon's Indian subsidiary Amazon Seller Services India has announced plans to open five new fulfillment centers in the country. These centers will be located in Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru (outskirts of Gurgaon). With this, Amazon will have seven fulfillment centers across India including its existing Fulfillment Centers in Mumbai and Bangalore. With this addition, the company claims that it has nearly doubled its total storage capacity to over half million square feet. Amazon mentions that the Chennai center is already operational and the other four centers will be operational next month. Thes facilities will apparently provide existing and new retailers from both South & North India closer access to Amazon’s fulfillment capabilities. Amazon notes that the customers in these regions can also expect better selection of products for immediate shipment and will be eligible for Amazon’s next day and same day delivery services. Similar developments at Amazon India Earlier in March this year, Amazon India had launched a pilot program to test in-store pick-up service in Delhi and Mumbai in association with BPCL’s In & Out stores. Shoppers were provided the option to select In & Out as the pick-up of point of their Amazon purchases during the checkout process. In the following month, Amazon had extended this pilot to Bangalore and allowed customers to pick-up purchased products from local kirana shops.
