RCOM’s losses up 26% QoQ at Rs 1,221 crore in Q1FY18

Anil Ambani led Reliance Communications has posted a loss of Rs 1,221 crore for the quarter ended June 2017 (Q1FY18), which increased 26.3% from Rs 966 crore in the previous quarter. Read it here

Google adds voice search in 8 Indian languages; Where this is going…

Hot on the heels of the Wall Street Journal’s “The End of Typing: The Next Billion Mobile Users Will Rely on Video and Voice” article, Google has announced voice search in 8 additional Indian languages: Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This voice based dictation and search will be available on Gboard on Android, and in search using the Google App, and more importantly, via Google’s Cloud speech API. Read it here

Infibeam posts Rs 19.7 crore net profit with services contributing to growth

E-commerce company Infibeam posted a net profit of Rs 19.7 crore for the quarter ended June 30 (Q1 FY17), growing 107% from Rs 9.6 crore in the same quarter. Sequentially, net profit grew 44.85% from the preceding quarter. The company attributed the growth in net profit and revenue due to its web services segment while it said that the e-commerce segment maintained stability without burning cash. Read it here

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has directed 21 handset makers to submit information on security architecture and standards that they follow for storing customer data online, according to an Economic Times report. Read it here

TRAI seeks to change existing MNP guidelines to cut down porting rejections

To cut down on rejections at the time of Mobile Number Porting (MNP), telecom regulator TRAI is seeking to change existing MNP guidelines. It said that around 40% of the total porting request rejection happened due to Unique Porting Code (UPC) mismatch errors. Read it here

Government’s scheme for BHIM cashbacks and referrals; why?

The ministry of electronics and information and technology (MeITY) has extended the referral bonus scheme, merchant cashback programme and BHIM Aadhaar merchant incentive scheme will continue till March 31, 2018. Even as DishTV adds 186K subscribers, it tries to allay fears on rivalry from video services

Direct-to-home (DTH) operator DishTV has added 186,000 net subscribers during the quarter ended June 2017 (Q1 FY18), an increase of 12.72% from the165,000 subscribers added in the preceding quarter. With this, Dish TV’s total number of subscribers now stands at 15.7 million. Read it here
