Online cab hailing service Uber, has appointed Sanjay Gupta as the Head of Marketing for Uber India at it’s office in Gurgaon. He will focus on strengthening Uber’s brand in India, the company said in a statement. Note according to his Linkedin profile, Gupta joined the company in May this year. (Nikhil adds: Given Uber’s history in India, and its global issues, Gupta has his work cut out for him, trying to strengthen Ubers brand.)
Gupta comes with a total of 15 years of experience. Prior to joining Uber, he was the Chief Marketing Officer at Urban Ladder for more than a year. Prior to that he was head of marketing at Marico for two years. Gupta holds a degree of MBA from Management Development Institute (MDI).
While Uber is busy tackling issues, rivals Lyft and Careem and Ola have recently raised funding.
– Meanwhile, India rival Ola has raised $50 million from hedge fund Tekne Capital Management, as indicated by unconfirmed reports.
-In June this year, Lyft raised $25 million from Jaguar Land Rover. The company had said it will use the funds to expand business and develop technologies for self-driving cars. As part of the investment, a fleet of its vehicles including Jaguar and LandRover will be supplied to Lyft.
– Another rival Careem raised $150 million — closing out a $500 million Series E round. The company had announced the $500 million round in December last year. The company is now valued at $1 billion.
