Arunabh Kumar steps down as CEO of The Viral Fever

We missed this earlier

Video content company The Viral Fever’s (TVF) Arunabh Kumar has stepped down as CEO, and chief operating officer Dhawal Gusain will now be the new CEO of the company. Kumar, who is being dogged by allegations of sexual harassment, posted on Twitter and added that he will continue to be a mentor to the content team at The Viral Fever.

The alleged sexual harassment incident came to light after an anonymous Medium user named Indian Fowler accused Kumar of sexually harassing her at the workplace. The post is now taken down from Medium (Here is a cached version). However, TVF immediately reacted in a statement saying that “the article is completely ludicrous and defamatory against TVF and its team. All the allegations made against TVF and its team in the article are categorically false, baseless and unverified.”

TVF still maintains that there was no employee in the company described by Indian Fowler. “However, it is a fact that we have found no records of any such person on our pay roll, in that given time period, as described in the (Medium) blog,” the company said in a statement.

As the incident was breaking, Nidhi Bisht, writer and actress at TVF, defended Kumar saying “we will leave no stone unturned to find the author of the article and bring them to severe justice for making such false allegations.” A day later, Bisht toned down her statements as more women started coming forward with allegations against Kumar.

Kumar, on his part, had this to say on his Twitter letter: “We made a grave mistake, by reacting instinctively, in our first official response. While no amount of apologies can undo the mistake, I would like to again apologise from the bottom of our hearts for letting all of you down and thus humbly accept the brickbats we received for that insensitive response.”

In March, The Mumbai Police summoned  Kumar on Wednesday, after a woman claiming to be a former TVF employee, lodged an FIR with the police. According to the woman who filed the complaint, the alleged harassment incident took place back in May 2016 when she used to work with Kumar.
