Brief: TRAI is asking whether each hotel or places which offer in-house calling facilities and WiFi should buy a government license to offer Internet access.

Brief: In order to “ease” opening of a telecom business in India, TRAI is inviting comments stakeholders asking how the existing regulations could be tweaked.

3. Consultation Paper on Regulatory Principles of Tariff Assessment
Brief: TRAI looks at redefining the definition of a promotional offer by looking at various features that constitute a promotional offer, how these offers can be ‘predatory’ and ‘discriminatory’, and ways to curb ‘anti-competitive’ pricing.

4. Consultation Paper On Approach towards Sustainable Telecommunications
Brief: TRAI examined the need to create an external committee for monitoring carbon emissions by telcos and to ensure the credibility of carbon footprint reports released by telcos.

Brief: TRAI suggested removing the mandatory 90 days lock-in period for porting out a mobile number to another network, in case a telco is shutting down its services or upgrading its technology.
