Caller Identification app Truecaller has tied up with Google for integrating a video calling option, Airtel for caller ID services, and with ICICI bank for UPI-based payments in its recently revamped app. The app also features SMS spam filtering/blocking and an instant “flash messaging” feature to alert family/friends when a user is in distress or to send short texts and share GPS location.

The tie-up with Airtel will allow Truecaller to extend its caller ID feature to all Airtel users in India, including for users who own a feature phone and for users who do not have a data connection. The identity of unknown numbers will be flashed to users via Flash SMSes before an incoming call alerts the user’s mobile. The service is available on a subscription basis.

Apart from this, the new TrueCaller app will have a Google Duo integration as an optional feature, which will allow users to make video calls from within the app. All Truecaller profiles will have a Duo icon, clicking on the icon will initiate a video call without having to download Duo manually.

For payments, Truecaller tied up with ICICI Bank for integrating Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments under a separate tab named Truecaller Pay. App users will be able to create a UPI virtual payment addresses (VPA) with their Truecaller ID and recharge mobile number from within the app itself. More on this here.

Other TrueCaller tie-ups and user base

Apart from Airtel and ICICI Bank, the company has tie-ups with multiple India firms including e-commerce firms like Snapdeal and Flipkart for filtering out incoming IVR or delivery verification calls while shopping online. The app also provides login APIs to developers which allow users to authenticate their identity and credentials using their Truecaller account. Most recently, the company deployed this on BankBazaar and MobiKwik app to ensure that these platforms receive registrations from genuine users only.

The company claimed to have over 150 million Indian users. In August, it said that people made over 500 million calls monthly via its app. It also claimed to have a database of 1.7 billion numbers from India and blocked over 120 million spam calls on a daily basis.
