Caller Identification app Truecaller has tied up with Google for integrating a video calling option, Airtel for caller ID services, and with ICICI bank for UPI-based payments in its recently revamped app. The app also features SMS spam filtering/blocking and an instant “flash messaging” feature to alert family/friends when a user is in distress or to send short texts and share GPS location. The tie-up with Airtel will allow Truecaller to extend its caller ID feature to all Airtel users in India, including for users who own a feature phone and for users who do not have a data connection. The identity of unknown numbers will be flashed to users via Flash SMSes before an incoming call alerts the user’s mobile. The service is available on a subscription basis. Apart from this, the new TrueCaller app will have a Google Duo integration as an optional feature, which will allow users to make video calls from within the app. All Truecaller profiles will have a Duo icon, clicking on the icon will initiate a video call without having to download Duo manually. For payments, Truecaller tied up with ICICI Bank for integrating Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments under a separate tab named Truecaller Pay. App users will be able to create a UPI virtual payment addresses (VPA) with their Truecaller ID and recharge mobile number from within the app itself. More on this here.
