The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) is looking to host a mobile world conference in the country, with a focus on Southeast Asian markets, COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews told PTI. The upcoming 30-day conference will start on September 27th this year, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The report mentions that the GSM Association, which organises the MWC in Barcelona, has agreed to associate with the event in India. Additionally, discussions with the British and Swedish Trade Ministers have been undertaken to assure participation in the ‘IMC’, or Indian Mobile Congress. Other than Barcelona, Shanghai is the only city that currently hosts Mobile World Congress events. According to Mathews, all Indian mobile operators as well as international companies like Facebook, Huawei, Ericsson, Cisco etc are likely to participate in the mobile congress. He mentions that other Indian businesses have also been invited to participate in the event. The event will focus on ‘knowledge sharing, exhibition, start ups, skill development and all pillars of Digital India including Make in India,’ he said. Note that MWC takes place every year, once in Barcelona during February/March and a second time in Shanghai in June/July. The event highlights various technological developments, especially with respect to mobile devices. It features mobile operators, technology providers, content owners, device manufacturers and vendors from across the globe, showing off their latest wares. Last year, the GSM Association said it would also take the event to Americas through Mobile World Congress Americas, from the year 2017.…
