Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd has appointed Zubin Dubash as its COO for New Media business. Dubash joins from AppsDaily (earlier called Onward Mobility), where he was Chief Product and Strategy Officer. He had joined AppsDaily in 2011, and was involved in product creation and strategic partnerships. Last October, AppsDaily raised $3.7 million from Zodius Capital, Kalaari Capital, Qualcomm Ventures, Ru-Net and Mumbai Angels. It is essentially a business that is built on the premise of building an offline distribution network for app sales. Prior to joining AppsDaily, Dubash was Vice President and National Head for New Businesses at Tata Docomo, looking at areas like m-commerce, NFC, Mobile TV, m-governance etc. He has also worked with companies like Vodafone and British Gas Broadband. This is a move to the other side for Dubash, looking at distribution of Shemaroo's content to platforms and retailers, and possibly telecom operators, while in the past he's worked in companies focused on acquiring and distributing content to consumers. Last quarter, Shemaroo reported new media revenues of Rs 23.95 crores, up 51.5% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y). More on the results here.
