Video streaming service Viu inks licensing deal with Shemaroo

Vuclip’s video-on-demand service, Viu has inked a licensing deal with Shemaroo Entertainment  to get access to a catalogue of recent Hindi films such as Sarkar, Black, Ishqiya, Traffic Signal, Bheja Fry 2, and The Dirty Picture, among others. Shemaroo claims to have a library of over 3000 movie titles and is active in content ownership, creation, aggregation and distribution of content for satellite channels, physical formats, mobile, Internet, broadband, IPTV, DTH, among others.

With the spurt in original content among video platforms in the recent times, Viu has also been focusing on its original content library by commissioning and partnering with different production houses and individuals in the content industry. Last month, the platform commissioned two original shows by film director and producer, Vikram Bhatt. Of the two, the supernatural thriller will be called Gehraiyaan while Spotlight will be the working title of the show based on the life of a Bollywood star. In November 2017, the platform launched its a micro original series with Cricketer Virender Sehwag called Viru Ke Funde.
