Ex-Google veteran Amit Singhal has joined Uber as Senior Vice President of Engineering, he said in a blogpost. Singhal will be responsible for technology development at the company. He mentions that “Uber is a geek’s candy store—and I can’t wait to get started applying computer science to the real world, for real people, to improve real lives.” Catching the next ride of my professional journey with @travisk at @Uber pic.twitter.com/EGQn7VQTDJ — Amit Singhal (@theamitsinghal) January 20, 2017 Prior to Uber, Singhal was the head of ranking team, Google Fellow and the person responsible for Google’s search algorithms. He worked for 15 years at Google, before which he worked at AT&T labs researching IR and database programming. Interestingly, at the time Singhal said he would concentrate on his family and philanthropy after this. In April last year, he joined GOQii’s board of directors and in October Paytm’s, as a strategic advisor. At the time, Paytm said Singhal’s “strong expertise in artificial intelligence and experience in building large deeply technical teams will be extremely valuable to Paytm.” Post Google, he had also launched a non-profit organization for children called the Singhal Foundation.
