Tariff Wars: Jio’s FUP packs, Aircel’s bundled plans with unlimited calls & more


Reliance Jio’s FUP packs

Reliance Jio yesterday announced that it is extending its welcome offer of free voice/video calls and data up till March 31st 2017. However data usage is capped at FUP of 1GB per day from the earlier 4GB limit. Jio also announced two new data tariff packs to extend the FUP limit. Note that post exhaustion of FUP limits on both paid and free packs, speeds will be throttled to 128 Kbps.

-Rs. 51 pack which provides additional 1GB of data with only 24 hours validity from the time of recharge.
-Rs 301 pack for extending FUP limit to 6GB with a validity of 28 days.


Aircel launches bundled data+voice packs

Aircel has launched combo recharge packs for new customers at denominations starting at Rs 127 up till Rs 297. The pack is bundled with 3G data, and unlimited talk time. It is applicable on first-time recharge to new subscribers in Karnataka circles only. These include:

-Rs 127 pack bundled with 300 MB of 3G data, Unlimited Aircel-to-Aircel local and STD calls with 30,000 seconds talktime on other newtorks (Validity 28 days)
– Rs 197 pack bundled with 1 GB of 3G data, Unlimited Aircel-to-Aircel local and STD calls with 54,000 seconds talktime on other newtorks (Validity 28 days)
-Rs 297 pack bundled with 2 GB of 3G data, Unlimited Aircel-to-Aircel local and STD calls with 10,800 seconds talktime on other networks (Validity 28 days)

For new subscribers in Kolkata circle, Aircel is offering unlimited Aircel-to-Aircel calls on STD and Local, with 300 minutes of talktime on other networks for Rs 149 valid for 30 days. The pack comes with bundled data of 1 GB 3G data valid for 60 days. For existing subscribers in Kolkata circle, Aircel is providing Unlimited Aircel-to-Aircel calls on local and STD) and 300 minutes on other networks for 30 days at Rs 147.

For existing users in Andhra Pradesh and Telngana circle Aircel’s is providing:
-Rs 497 pack which offers 10GB 3G data
-Rs 555 pack which offers 5GB 3G data and talktime of Rs 555
-Rs 599 pack which provides unlimited local calls with 1.5GB of 3G data
-Rs 799 pack with unlimited local and STD calls and 2.5GB of 3G data


Tata Docomo subscribers can make new data, voice recharges with old notes

Tata Docomo has launched combo packs with bundled data and talkime at denomination starting from Rs 494 up till Rs 500 valid across all of its circles. Tata Docomo subscribers can  make these recharges using the old Rs 500 currency notes till 15 December 2016 as per government notification, the company said in a statement. Following are the packs:

-Rs 495 pack will provide 10GB of 3G/2G data valid for 90 days.
-Rs 496 pack bundled with Rs 250 worth of talktime, 5GB of 3G/2G data valid for 60 days
-Rs 494 pack with Unlimited STD and local call valid for 30 days
-Rs 500 pack which provides talktime worth of Rs 600


Vodafone launches data booster packs lowering 1GB recharges to Rs 53

Vodafone India has launched 3G/4G data booster packs for subscribers in Tamil Nadu circle, which lowerd 1GB of data effectively at Rs 53, reports Telecom Talk. A subscriber will first have to make an upfront recharge of:
-Rs 1501 that provides 15 GB of data valid for 12 months. This lowers 1GB recharges down to Rs 53; 2GB for Rs 103; and 5GB for Rs 256
-Rs 748 pack that provides 3GB of data valid for 6 months. This lowers 1GB recharges down to Rs 106
-Rs 494 pack that provides 2GB of data valid for 6 months. This pack lowers 1GB recharges down to Rs 122.

Note that within the validity period of the initial pack, subscribers can make unlimited number of 1GB, 2GB, or 5GB recharges and use the data until he/she exhausts it.  Airtel was the first operator to announce such upfront or booster recharge packs. At that time we had pointed out that these packs do not seem to offer anything new, other than the fact that a user is paying a huge sum for a 1GB data recharge to get a pseudo subsidy on the subsequent lowered 1 GB packs.
