Paytm has appointed former Google executive Amit Singhal as a strategic advisor to its board of directors, reports ETTech. Singhal had quit Google in February this year and had said he would concentrate on family and philanthropy. Subsequently, in April, he was appointed to the board of directors at GOQii.
According to Paytm, Singhal’s “strong expertise in artificial intelligence and experience in building large deeply technical teams will be extremely valuable to Paytm.” At Google, Singhal was it’s head of ranking team, Google Fellow and the person responsible for Google’s search algorithms. He worked for 15 years at Google, before which he worked at AT&T labs researching IR and database programming.
Earlier this month, Paytm had appointed Madhur Deora as its Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President.
Other acqui-hires: Last month, Paytm acqui-hired EduKart, an e-learning marketplace for an undisclosed amount. EduKart’s co-founder Ishan Gupta now works as the VP of business at Paytm. In January this year, Paytm acquired Shifu, a consumer behavior prediction platform for an undisclosed amount. Shifu’s team of 20 along joined Paytm, where they would work on consumer experience.
