Glitch in PoS terminals: In Hyderabad, some ePOS machines at ration shops failed to read finger prints which were captured on the Aadhaar system. Citizens were advised to go back checking officers to go get their finger prints captured. ePoS devices were installed at 1,645 dealer shops in the Hyderabad city. These devices have preloaded Aadhar details of the Food Security Card (FSC) holder. According to officials, a total of 834 people out of 5,82,771 FCS holders were denied service from April this year since the new system came into operation. Read more at The New Indian Express.
Aadhaar to be made mandatory for all students: The Hindu reports that every student in Karnataka will have an Aadhaar card. The Department of Primary and Secondary Education has decided to make the card mandatory for all students in government, aided and private unaided schools, as well as Pre-university colleges.
Aadhaar linkages to ration cards in Bihar: Union minister for food and public distribution asked officials in Bihar to expedite linkages of ration cards to Aadhaar. While the national average for Aadhaar with ration cards is 66%, it stands at a meagre 0.13% in Bihar. Read more in Times of India.
Linking Aadhaar to railway booking: After linking Aadhaar with LPG subsidies, ration cards and passports, the UIDAI is in talks with the railways for linking Aadhaar number with booking of concessional tickets to prevent misuse of subsidy facility by unscrupulous elements. Aadhaar to be used for public health facilitates: In a remodelling of the public health care system in India, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that Aadhaar numbers will be used as unique patient identifiers in a new electronic health records system. A ministry official added that a procedure will be laid down for doctors and insurance providers to authorise use of health records in cases like accidents where a patient is unable to provide authorisation. Fake Aadhaar cards used in PDS: The Deccan Herald reports that the Food and Civil Supplies Department discovered a racket of linking fictitious Aadhaar numbers with bogus Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards in Bangalore. More than 1.6 lakh bogus BPL cards that were seeded with fictitious Aadhaar numbers.
Temple famous for marriages now requires Aadhaar: Golu Devta temple in Uttarakhand which is famous for marriages has made it mandatory for couples to produce Aadhaar cards. The temple authorities have taken this step for the purpose of preventing underage marriages. Read more at Rajasthan Patrika.
