Ixigo launches a travel & booking chatbot

Travel search marketplace Ixigo has rolled out Ixibaba, an artificial intelligence (AI) based chatbot which will answer simple questions related to all travel planning and booking queries. The company states that Ixibaba was built from over 30 million data points including destinations, points if interest, routes, activities in India and globally.

Ixibaba will be able to provide real time travel deals and also answer queries related to weather and activities in a city using the company’s meta search engine. The company said that it took the company a year to build Ixibaba, and that the bot will learn from real interactions with its users. It claims that in tests with 1,000 users, the bot was able to recognise – with 80% accuracy – travel related queries. Ixigo has also integrated the chatbot with Facebook’s messenger.

Salman adds: Since Ixibaba isn’t developed into an app, it seems more like the chatbot is still in a beta test phase. The service returns distance between destination and origin with ticket details, and even provides the fastest medium to travel: train, buses, or flights, cheapest option, and a “recommended” option, when I queried for “Distance between Goa and Kochi.” This probably is the most helpful feature right now and might appeal to frequent travelers more than leisure travelers.

Ixigo has been padding up its service with multiple offerings:

– In March ixigo launched ixibook, a service which will allow users to book flights and hotels within the ixigo app, in a partnership with online travel agency Cleartrip and OYO Rooms.

– In April ixigo launched a service wherein users could call for a cab even in places without an internet connection and GPS on its ixigo cabs app. Users could book cabs from Uber, Ola, TaxiForSure, EasyCabs etc. using the user’s location through existing PNR confirmations on a phone and SMSes for when the internet connection doesn’t work.

– In May ixigo launched intercity cab booking on its web, mobile web and app platforms with 250 intercity cab operators, who work to display the lowest fare within 2 minutes. This service is available in Delhi (NCR), Jaipur, Agra, Chandigarh, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Jammu, Shimla, Manali, Meerut and Alwar.
