Comedy, it turns out, is serious business. Video streaming service nexGTv has launched a separate humour app called Comedy One. The company has partnered with ONE Network Entertainment, an online video creator, talent aggregator, branded content producer, for the same. Interestingly, content from Comedy One will also be available on nexGTv. Abesh Verma, COO of nexGTv said that this was done to make comedy discovery easy for people, as indicated by this Hindu Business Line report. The app works on a freemium model and charges for premium content which is marked out separately. Charges for premium content are at Rs 5 per day, Rs 35 per week, Rs 125 per month and Rs 600 per year. Comedy One will have shows such as 'Kaun Banega Roadpati’, ‘Aadmi Heera Hai’, ‘Pakao Paparazzi’, ‘Waiter Waiter’, ‘Doctor Doctor’ and ‘Interview with a Villain’ available as a part of its humour-based catalogue. nexGTv said that it will be producing "hard-hitting and impactful content" that makes viewers "laugh and reflect". In contrast, production house SAB Group said that its new shows created for the digital medium under the Happii-Fi brand will be geared for more mass appeal and will not focus on irreverent or political styles of comedy. Note that ONE Network Entertainment also tied up with YouTube MCN Ping Digital Broadcast to launch an initiative called ‘The creators collective’ for content producers and creators to become publishers, specially in the comedy genre. nexGTv also has a separate app for for kids and offers video content for children between the age…
