March 2016: India Added Over 5.22 Million GSM Connections

The Cellular Operators Association of India (whose members include Google and Facebook), has reported an addition of 5.22 million GSM connections in March 2016, closing in at 773 million connections, a 0.68% increase from 768 million connections in the previous month.

1 Coai march 2016

GSM operator and circle-wise data (excluding Reliance, BSNL and Tata):

– Airtel added 2.54 million connections in March 2016, taking its connection base to 251.23 million.
– Vodafone added 1.20 million connections, taking its connection base to 197.94 million.

2 Coai march 2016

– Among metro circles, Chennai added 76,685 GSM connections, while Mumbai added 25,355 GSM connections.

Note that no information has been provided about the active users which we’ll probably get once the telecom regulator TRAI releases data for the entire industry.
