— FactorDaily (@factordaily) May 6, 2016
Kaul joined Apple in November 2011 as head of the iPhone business in India. His last designation at Apple, before being made country manager, was Director, Telecom. Prior to joining Apple, he served Canadian handset manufacturer BlackBerry where he headed the firm’s channel sales division.
In January this year, Apple India lost its chief Maneesh Dhir, who worked at the firm for over 5 years. He was appointed as the Country Sales Manager back in 2010, when the then Apple India chief Alok Sharma quit the company in 2009.
This appointment comes at a time when India has become a market of great importance to Apple. In the January-March 2016 period, the company reported a 56% growth in iPhone sales, while global sales dropped by 10 million. Earlier in November 2015, Apple India crossed the $1 billion sales mark for FY15.
Apple’s recent developments
- Sharad Mehrotra, Apple’s enterprise mobility head in India, had also quit the company in January to start his own smartphone company Hyve Mobility.
- Earlier last month, a government panel recommended relaxing mandatory local sourcing regulations for Apple, which will allow the company to set up single-brand retail stores in India.
