BloombergQuint appoints Menaka Doshi as managing editor

Veteran business journalist Menaka Doshi has been appointed managing editor of BloombergQuint, the new business news channel launched by Raghav Bahl’s The Quint. The channel is a joint venture with Bloomberg and will be co-branded by the two companies.

The website is expected to go live in the next three months, while the news channel will start after acquiring an uplinking license from the ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The channel will compete with the likes of Network 18, ET NOW, NDTV Profit etc.

Doshi has been a broadcast journalist for almost 12 years, having begun her career with TV18 in 1996 as Features Reporter on India Business Report (BBC). Thereafter she moved to reporting business news for CNBC-TV18. She has played an integral role in news programming in the past 9 years and is now Corporate Editor.

She has also anchored and produced Young Turks, a show that profiles young achievers and Realty Check, a show that captured all the real estate action in the country. She also co-anchored CNBC-TV18`s primetime evening news show India Business Hour. Doshi was the first recipient of the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award 2005-06 in the category of Business & Economic Journalism (Broadcast).

Bloomberg, Reliance partnership: Note that in January this year, Bloomberg said it wouldterminate its agreement with Business Broadcast News, the news broadcast arm of Anil Ambani’s Reliance ADA Group, from the 31st of March. At the time, Bloomberg said it would soon unveil plans for a future TV channel in India.

Quint’s TV ventures: In June last year, The Quint had partnered with Da Vinci Media to launch a Da Vinci Learning TV channel in India. The partnership was a 50:50 joint venture with the TV channel’s main focus being on family educational content. Note that The Quint had gone live in March the same year, after having started publishing stories on Facebook as a preview to the new service in January.
