Uber API to let developers customize cab rides

uber-1 (1)

Uber has announced two new additions to its API, the ‘Uber Ride Request Widget’ and ‘Trip Branding and Personalization’ for Android and iOS. The company had first launched its API for third-party app developers in August 2014, letting developers list ridesharing services and display pickup times.

The ride request widget will let developers configure the entire trip from inside their apps. Users requesting for a cab through such apps will be able to choose between booking uberX, uberXL uberBlack etc., and will be able to make payments as well. This feature will be available to app developers by mid-April.

The other feature, trip branding and personalization, will allow developers to deliver relevant information. For example, Zomato will display the menu of a hotel a user is taking an Uber to. Similarly, transport apps can map trips using multiple cabs with buses or trains used intermittently. This feature is open to all developers that are integrating ride reminders or ride request features.

In January this year, Uber had launched another API feature called ‘Uber Trip Experience’ which other app developers could integrate to offer various features during a trip. A month before, the company had introduced the ‘Ride Request’ button, which developers of Android and iOS apps could integrate.

Ola API: In September last year, Ola opened up its API for developers, letting them integrate the platform’s services on their apps. The API allows platforms to integrate ride availability, booking and tracking and time estimation services based on Ola’s data. However, Ola does not yet provide a way for developers to provide services during rides.
