Ola adds Kolkata’s yellow taxis to its platform

Online cab aggregator Ola has introduced Kolkata’s yellow taxis on its platform. The company claims to have over a 1,000 yellow taxis on the app already and says that it will register overall 5,000 taxis in the next 3 months. Ola has provided the taxi drivers with smartphones which will help them accept rides and navigate to the location. After the ride, Ola will charge a Rs 10 convenience charge over the government approved meter fare. Users of Ola will be able to pay by cash or via Ola Money. The company has trained the drivers in behaviour, etiquette and technology. Ola says that it has around 5,000 registered vehicles in Kolkata, and over 250,000 across 100 cities. Note that the registered vehicles on Ola include taxis and autos. Driver benefits to switch to CNG cars Last week, Ola announced a new limited time programme where it was incentivizing drivers in Delhi with benefits of up to Rs 100,000, including a discount of up to Rs 60,000 to purchase a new CNG car. Ola partnered with dealers like Maruti, Hyundai, Tata. Ola also enabled flexible financing options with lower down payment and better structured EMIs for drivers to buy cars. It also offered exchange programs to drivers who wanted to move from diesel to CNG vehicles and join its platform by enabling zero down payment against the resale value of their old car.
