HOOQ signs content deal with Sun TV

Video streaming service HOOQ is expanding its library and has signed a multi-year deal with Sun TV, reports Indiantelevision.com. HOOQ will carry Sun TV’s library that includes a mix of films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Singapore telecom operator Singtel launched HOOQ in India earlier in May with plans starting at Rs 199 per month. Earlier this month, HOOQ also added over 1,000 Shemaroo video titles on its platform. Shemaroo would provide movies across genres and languages and will include films, TV shows and fitness videos like Hunterrr, The Dirty Picture, Ishqiya, Don, Shilpa’s Yoga and Bipasha’s Fit & Fabulous.

In July, the company expanded its catalog to include movies from Bollywood production house Yash Raj Films. Some of the movies from Yash Raj Films included iconic classics such as Kaala Patthar, Kabhi Kabhi and Silsila along with other movies like Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year and Kabul Express. HOOQ currently claims to have a content library of over 30,000 hours.

Facebook adds “Donate” button for non-profits 

Social network  Facebook has introduced a donate button for non-profit organizations. The ‘Donate Now’ button can be placed by an organization on their main Facebook page, or be integrated it in adverts that show up in the timelines of users. A report by Mint says that a page’s category needs to be set to “non-profit organization” to enable the button. So far, non-profit organizations such as  the ALS Association, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Livestrong, American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society have their donate buttons live. The report also added that non-profits can also select which users to display the Donate Now button to.

Facebook had also started testing a buy button for Shopify in June and extended this feature to various business’ Facebook pages in July. The new feature would let retailers sell items directly through their business page, turning it into a partial ecommerce store.

Facebook’s standalone photo app now live in India 

Facebook’s standalone photo app, Moments, which was launched in June is now live in India, reports NextBigWhat. Moments has also been updated with a new video feature that creates a video using a minimum of 6 photos accompanied by music. Facebook claims that the app uses facial recognition to sort photos out based on who’s in them and can segregate images based on location and then share them with friends.

Earlier this month, Facebook launched its own livestreaming service through its Facebook Mentions app, which would allow verified influencers and celebrities to engage with fans and audiences. The service, called Live, competes with Twitter’s Periscope and Meerkat. Looks like it’s now taking on Google’s standalone app for photos.

Shemaroo will livestream Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja this Ganapati festival

Bollywood content aggregator and media company Shemraoo has obtained exclusive video content rights for Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja, one of the most popular Ganapati pandals, for mobile phones. People can watch  aarti, live darshan and other videos of the pandal on their mobile handsets. Users need to send an SMS with “SELBR” to 56060 following which they will receive a link on their mobile which will redirect them to website. Live darshan of Lalbaugcha Raja will be available from 17 September.

Shemaroo also says it will distribute content of Lalbaugcha Raja to all the telecom operators. The company will also will provide a live feed of the deity to selected mobile apps to reach a wider audience.

Ola offers benefits of up to Rs 1 lakh to drivers to switch to CNG 

Ola announced a new programme where it is incentivizing drivers in Delhi with benefits of up to Rs 100,000 and including a discount of up to Rs 60,000 to purchase a new CNG car. Ola also says that it has partnered with dealers like Maruti, Hyundai, Tata. The programme will go on till September 1.

Ola is  enabling flexible financing options with lower down payment and better structured EMIs for drivers to buy cars. Under this initiative, drivers can buy a sedan or a hatchback and avail a loan of up to 90% of the total value with an EMI moratorium for the first 2 months. The company is also making available attractive exchange offers to drivers who want to move from diesel to CNG vehicles and join its platform by enabling zero down payment against the resale value of their old car.

Global carpet exporter KAKA Group has launched a self-funded online marketplace called Royzez.com. The portal has product categories such as women’s clothing, men’s clothing, gadgets and home decor. The e-tailer has roped in Fedex, Delhivery, Bluedart and Dotzot services to reach more than 15000 pin codes in the country.
