Industry moves: PayU and Rdio

PayU appoints Raj Kamal and Sanjeev Sandhu as VP strategy and PayU Global tech business head respectively

Digital payments company PayU has appointed Raj Kamal as its VP of strategy and Sanjeev Sandhu as business head of PayU Global technology solutions business, reports VCCircle. The report added that PayU was looking to consolidate its global presence, for which Kamal and Sandhu will be responsible. It will also look to expand to other economies.

Kamal was a partner at McKinsey & Co for over 12 years, before which he worked in the Indian Administrative Service for 8 years. Sandhu has worked as the director of vertical sales at Verifone for over 2 years, and the AVP of sales and business development for South Asia at Ingenico for about 4.5 years.

Late last month, the Naspers-owned payment gateway company which operates the online payments solution PayUMoney, appointed Prabhakar Tiwari as its Chief Marketing Officer. In his new role, Tiwari would be responsible for the PR and marketing activities carried out by PayU.


Rdio appoints Shamik Talukder as GM and India head, Ganesh Iyer as content and marketing head

Music streaming service Rdio has appointed Shamik Talukder as general manager and India head, reports RadioAndMusic. Talukder will report to Rdio International president Scott Bagby and be responsible for Rdio’s Indian growth as well as drive new partnerships.

Before joining Rdio, Talukder was the VP at Viacom18 for a year and a half, before which he headed the revenue management and business development at Viacom18’s Integrated Network Solutions. Prior to that, he worked as the director at Radiant Brand Com for over a year. He also worked as the SVP and business head or IPR and sponsorships at Radio Mirchi for about a year and as the SVP and national activations head at the same org for 2.5 years.

Before that, Talukder worked as a director at OOH Media India, promoter and COO at Via OOH, Times Out of Home Media, ENIL, and at Sony Entertainment TV for over 2.5 years and corporate sales head of north India for 2.5 years. Talukder has also worked at Indya.com, Star TV for about 2.5 years, as a marketing and sales executive at Mid Day for 1.5 years and as a marketing officer at Times of India for about a year.

The company has also opened an office in Mumbai, with around 10-12 people. The report mentions that former Rdio vice presidents Swapnil Shinde and Snehal Shinde will step into advisory roles.

Rdio has also appointed Ganesh Iyer as head of content and marketing. Iyer previously worked as the SVP and regional programming head of south region at Radio Mirchi for 5 years, before which he was the VP of Mirchi Movies for over 4 years. He headed the artistes and repertoire and was a product manager at Sony Music India for over 4 years and a team member of the strategic brand planning at FCB Ulka Advertising for 2 years. Before this, Iyer worked as a movies marketing manager at Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited.
