Naspers-owned payment gateway company PayU India, which operates the online payments solution PayUMoney, has appointed Prabhakar Tiwari as its Chief Marketing Officer. In his new role, Tiwari will be responsible for the PR and marketing activities carried out by PayU.
Prior to PayU, Tiwari was GM of Marketing at Ceat Tyres for close to three years, where he was responsible for product management, brand management and channel management. He also worked for a year and half at Avon as the category marketing head for cosmetics, fragrances and toiletries. Before this, Tiwari was the head of marketing at Danone Dairy for two years between 2009 and 2011.
Other than this, Tiwari was at Marico for over 5 years, starting off as a management trainee in marketing in 2004 before being promoted to senior brand manager by the time he left the company in 2009. He also worked at an engineering post for over a year at Shriram Pistons & Rings.
– In November last year, PayUMoney introduced a ‘Pay with PayUMoney’ button for third-party merchants, which let online shoppers complete purchases through its platform. E-tailers could embed this button on their websites or blogs, to enable payments without navigating away, through PayU’s gateway.
– In October, the company introduced a new payments collection feature called SMS Invoicing, which sends SMSs to customers with a link to the payment page. The SMS invoice feature was essentially the same as email invoice in terms of format and functionality.
– The same month, the company had also acquired mobile-based payment app Eashmart for an undisclosed amount. The Eashmart app allowed users to select the shop or merchant they want to make a payment to, enter the amount and make the payment. It’s not clear if Eashmart’s technology is powering the SMS Invoice feature, but the two do have some similarities.
