Industry moves: Facebook, Flipkart and Oneplus India

Facebook appoints country manager for connectivity solutionsMunish Seth

Facebook has appointed Munish Seth as country manager for connectivity, reports the Economic Times. Seth will be responsible for pushing the Internet company’s connectivity products and services in the country which will also include the net neutrality-violating Internet.org platform. According to his LinkedIn profile Seth joined Facebook in May 2015. Prior to joining Facebook, he served as country president and managing director for French telecom gear manufacturer Alcatel Lucent. He also served as chief technology officer for the Asia-Pacific region at Alcatel Lucent. This is a significant hire for Facebook amid the ongoing net neutrality debate and zero-rating of applications. In India, Facebook has partnered with Reliance Communications for Internet.org. Recently, Facebook also launched Internet.org in Pakistan in association with Telenor. The launch in Pakistan makes it the twelfth country Internet.org is present in.

Ankit NagoriFlipkart promotes Ankit Nagori as chief business officer

Ecommerce portal has promoted Ankit Nagori as chief business officer from his earlier role as head of marketplace operations, reports TechCircle. Nagori will now head Flikpart’s marketplace business in addition to retail and brand alliance functions, which will cease to exist as two separate business segments within the company and the report added that the company is looking to triple the number of third party sellers in the marketplace. Readers will note that Flipkart had said that it is looking to shed its dependence on WS Retail which accounts for more than 80% of the platform’s sales. Nagori would continue reporting to Mukesh Bansal, head of Flipkart’s e-commerce platform. Bansal, who came onboard after Flipkart acquired fashion e-tailer Myntra last year, now heads day-to-day operations.

OnePlus India appoints marketing head

OnePlus has named ex-Flipkart executive Karan Sarin as its head of marketing for the Indian operations, reports the Economic Times. Sarin was director for Flipkart’s gift cards business and worked with the company for over a year. Prior to joining Flipkart, Sarin founded Perkylane, an enterprise software (SaaS) company that provided on-demand employee benefits solution to more than thirty million small-medium sized companies in India, according to his LinkedIn profile. At OnePlus India, Sarin will help the company generate demand for its products by reaching out to new geographies and customers. In November 2014, Oneplus India appointed Vikas Agarwal as the general manager.
