Groupon ties with Xploree to offer real time in-app deals

Local coupon and deals generating platform Groupon India has partnered with search and discovery platform Xploree to offer users real time deals on dining, wellness, shopping and travel segments from Groupon on the Xploree platform (Android only currently) starting today.

Xploree uses hyper contextual linking, natural language processing, semantics and intent-matching algorithms to make predictive targeting easier. It claims to works across apps without the need to integrate the SDK into each app and can be used inside social media, chat messaging, m-commerce and search apps.

Analytics for advertisers, targeted advertising
The app offers a dashboard for mobile ad campaigns with inbuilt analytics. Xploree claims that its platform independent SDK can be used as a plugin in third party apps, OS level OEMs and can aggregate analytics on device segmentation, click through, demographics, contextual info, ad inventory, search and text among other features.

Users of Xploree need not quit the app they’re using to do a search or place an order at a restaurant or order a cab, for example. It operates in India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Developed by KeyPoint Technologies, who has also developed the Lipi keyboard and other Adaptxt apps, Xploree was launched in India last week and claims that it will support 140 global and Indic languages by the end of this year.

Groupon’s previous funding and revenues
Earlier this year, Groupon India had raised ‘external funding’ of $20 million led by Sequoia Capital, with plans to raise another round of funding this year and one next year, possibly aimed at separating itself from the US-based Groupon and becoming more autonomous. Groupon reported that 22% of Groupon India’s business was generated through mobile in Q2 2014, while globally, mobile accounted for 50% of their business for the same quarter.

Groupon-LINE deals partnership
In February last year, Groupon India had partnered with Japan-based mobile messaging and calling app LINE to provide daily deals through an official account ‘Groupon Freebies’ on LINE. Through this deal, Groupon offered exclusive ‘LINE only’ deals, weekly deals and a ‘Manic Monday’ deal offering freebies to its followers on LINE. The deal period or the financial terms of the partnership had not been disclosed.
