3.16 Million Mobile Number Portability Requests In India In April 2015


Porting requests were submitted for 3.16 million connections in the month of April 2015, according to the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI. This is down 17.40% from 3.83 million porting requests reported in March 2015. India had a total mobile connection base of 973.34 million connections (869 million active) as of April 2015. India doesn’t yet have number portability across service areas, the deadline for which has been extended to July 2015.

For the month of April, the maximum number of requests in Zone-I (North and West India) were received in Maharashtra at 0.27 million, followed by Rajasthan at 0.23 million and Gujarat at 0.21 million. Jammu & Kashmir which has one of the lowest user base, continues to receive the lowest number of porting requests at 974. Note that TRAI does not provide any operator-wise breakdown for these number porting requests.

In Zone-II (South and East India), Karnataka continues to lead with 0.42 million number porting requests till date, followed by Andhra Pradesh which received 0.32 million requests and  Tamil Nadu which received 0.22 million requests. North East circle saw 5,323 number porting requests for the month, up from 4,339 requests in the previous month.
