tusharvyasMedia buying agency GroupM has promoted Tushar Vyas as its chief strategy officer for South Asia. In his new role, Vyas will be responsible for developing future products and will have a core team of digital product specialists, data scientists and content experts. The company mentions it’s currently working on several initiatives to build new products with a focus on categories like e commerce, that Vyas will be responsible for.

Prior to this, Vyas had been heading GroupM Interaction, the digital media arm of GroupM, a unit he helped set up many years ago. He had earlier quit GroupM in 2007 to join Surewaves along with two other execs – Sanchit Sanga and Shashank Gawade. Vyas returned to the agency as National Director (interaction) three years later in 2010 although he continued to stay as an advisor with SureWaves. Other than this, Vyas was also the national director of MindShare for around five years.

GroupM also promoted Sridhar Ramasubramanian, chief financial officer, as the new chief operating officer of South Asia. In his new role Ramasubramanian will be responsible for leading the financial, commercial and IT team as well as the markets of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The company had said then that Sakhuja would remain with the group, without specifying what exactly his role in the company would be.

Sakhuja had been named Maxus CEO in 2012, before which he was CEO South Asia for GroupM, for a period of six and a half years. He had joined GroupM in 2002 as Managing Director of Mindshare Fulcrum, and was promoted to the position of Managing Director of Mindshare South Asia, and subsequently to the CEO position. He has had stints with STAR India, Coca-Cola Company India and Procter & Gamble as well.
