This is an advertisement The Law and Technology Society of National Law School of India University, Bangalore is organizing the 7th edition of its flagship conference-‘Consilience’ on 9th and 10th May, 2015 (Saturday and Sunday) ) on the theme of ‘Net-Neutraliyty’ at NLSIU Campus, Bangalore. As most of us are aware, Net-Neutrality, though highly disputed, broadly refers to the principle of data equality - meaning all data and data packets on the Internet must be treated equally. It advocates against policies which discriminate data transmission on the basis of the user, content and the type of receiving equipment or application. The ISPs have of late, started using differential policies and treatment for different packets of data based on a certain set criteria, such as point of origin (content provider) or termination (end user). Such practices have brought the issue of Net Neutrality under spotlight. There has been a lot of debate about the desirability and validity of these practices with battle lines being drawn with content providers and internet advocacy groups on one side, and ISPs and the like on the other. Consilience aims at not only getting leading lawyers, jurists, industry leaders and policy-makers in India to debate upon the various topics of contention but also looks to increase and encourage student participation. Apart from making an effective contribution towards greater understanding of the subject, the Conference will lead to publication of a special volume solely dedicated to the theme of Net-Neutrality in the Indian Journal of Law and Technology.…
