Online classifieds company Quikr has introduced direct purchases via its website. Quikr will take care of end-to-end sales, including collecting payments, home delivery and provide money back guarantee. This was first reported by NextBigWhat.
The Buy Through Quikr option is a 5-step process. Firstly, the buyer needs to enter the price that has been agreed upon after discussions with the seller (through Quikr Nxt of course). Once the seller accepts the price, a Quikr representative will get in touch with the buyer and collect cash payment. Then Quikr will deliver the product to the buyer, and after confirmation of delivery the payment is released to the seller. The buyer has the option to return the product within 5 days of delivery and get their money back.
Quikr already offers the ‘Buy Now’ feature for products that are Quikr Certified. Unlike the Buy Through Quikr option, in this case the price is fixed. Buyers simply need to place an order by entering their email ID and delivery details. It’s worth noting that Quikr doesn’t accept online payment. However, buyers have the option of paying by cash, through credit or debit cards and even opt for EMI facility at the time of delivery.
This is an interesting move by Quikr, considering that last year Amazon India’s price comparison & e-commerce platform Junglee.com launched its classifieds section, after experimenting with a Quikr integration for a few months. Last year, Junglee had also enabled direct purchases via its website, and added a number of established e-commerce platforms as sellers on the platform. It’s worth noting that Naspers-backed OLX had also collaborated with Amazon’s competitor Flipkart to offer discounts to Flipkart’s consumers, should they choose to sell their electronic goods on OLX.
Busy year at Quikr
The company, which earlier this month raised $150 million from existing investors Tiger Global and AB Kinnevik and new investor Steadview Capital, has had a busy 2015:
– In January this year, Quikr launched its instant messaging feature called Quikr Nxt, that enables real time conversations between buyers and sellers (which is also an important component of the Buy Through Quikr feature). The feature is available on Quikr’s mobile site, desktop site as well as on its mobile app.
– Earlier this month, the company also revealed plans of launching a real estate-focused website called quikrhomes.com. The site is expected to be launched within the next 3-5 weeks, and feature listings for plots and commercial spaces, alongside listings for houses and apartments for sale and available on rent. Quikr mentioned that the reason for this move is that, currently, the value of real estate related transactions are worth 50% of all transactions on Quikr. The company has already appointed online real estate portal Favista.com’s co-founder Manish Sinha as Head of Quikr Homes.
