2015 Spectrum Auctions Day 10: Bids rise to Rs 1.02 lakh crore

Total bids for spectrum across the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands after 61 rounds at the end of Day 10 (pdf) rose to Rs 1,02,215 crore from Rs 1,01,432 crore on Day 9. The Department of Telecom (DoT) mentioned that over 87% of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to bidders till date. Activity in the 900 MHz band, which had attracted a flurry of bids during the first few days of the 2015 spectrum auctions, has considerably slowed down. On Day 10, there was no excess demand for spectrum in the 900 MHz band. Only the West Bengal telecom circle saw bids for all 22 available blocks, and its reserve price has been increased by Rs 0.39 crore for the next round of bidding. On the other hand, activity in the 800 MHz band continues to be high after a slow start. There was excess demand for spectrum in the Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and North East circles on Day 10, similar to Day 9 (pdf) which saw excess demand in the Haryana circle as well. In fact, there has been excess demand for 800 Mhz spectrum in the Madhya Pradesh circle for 4 consecutive days now. Because of the excess demand for 800 MHz spectrum, reserve price for Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and North East circles has been increased by Rs 11.48 crore, Rs 8.73 crore and Rs 1.29 crore respectively in the next round of bidding.
