Trip38, a Bangalore based startup, has raised a funding of Rs 6 crore through InterGlobe Technology Quotient of InterGlobe Enterprises and Singapore-based venture capital firm Lantern Capital. With the funding, the president and CEO of InterGlobe Technology Quotient, Anil Parashar will be joining the startup’s board.
Funding to be used for marketing:
The company said that they will be using the investment to enhance features and expand the user base through strategic marketing. The money will also go into tweaking and bettering Trip38’s product features and make it more agile and user-friendly. It plans to eliminate the ticket printouts and manual travel management by combining mobile and travel into a single app/platform.
What Trip38 does:
The app lets users manage their flight and hotel bookings once their tickets have been booked externally. Users can access their flight or stay data according to route (date, airline, departure and arrival airports), airport (domestic and international) and by number (date, flight number and airline). Seshadri Krishnan, Trip38’s founder, added that they had been working on features such as Digital boarding passes and Smart Location aware services using iBeacon which they plan to launch soon.
A user can also check their flight status from a host of airports across the world. Trip38 features local guides, real time flight alerts, restaurant recommendations and maps and directions. Once a user emails their confirmed trips to email@example.com, they can access their travel plans offline on the Android and iOS platforms. It aggregates hotels, popular tourist destinations, airport + airline facilities and services and embassy and consulate data from various sources from over 30,000 cities in the world.
Tie ups with travel and stay partners:
With a presence in the US and product development rolling out of Bangalore, Trip38 lets hotel partners feed their details into Trip38 which are then pushed as alerts and offers to the travelers. Similarly, travel partners can use Trip38 to get users’ tickets info whereas their brand info will be displayed to the user under the partner’s brand name.
Trip38’s immediate competitors include apps like TripIt, myTrip, TripCase in the travel personal assistant space but its potential competitors include providers like TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, mTrip among others.
According to an article on YourStory, it automatically creates local guide on your smartphone based on your flight ticket or hotel confirmation email. Called a personal travel assistant, Trip38 says that the app has seen over 25,000 downloads since its launch last week, downloaded across 170 countries and has an Indian user base of 40-50%. Co founder Niranjan Gupta had previously co-founded hotel aggregator Magic Rooms and Via.com which were acquired by Yatra.com. This is InterGlobe Technology Quotient’s first startup investment but InterGlobe Enterprises is known as a promoter of no-frills Indian airline IndiGo, reports VCCircle.
