Former MakeMyTrip chief products officer Amit Somani has joined Bangalore-based seed-stage venture fund AngelPrime as a partner. Somani had resigned from MakeMyTrip in February last year, after a four-year stint with the company, following which he has continued to be associated with the company in an advisory role on its web and mobile products. At the time, he had informed Medianama that he plans to start his own venture, though he declined to disclose any specific details on this venture.

Somani had joined MakeMyTrip as its Chief Products Officer in January 2010 and was heading the company’s online product portfolio along with its user experience and content. He was also responsible for managing the products & listings of several business including hotels & mobile.
Prior to MakeMyTrip, he was with Google heading the product management for Google AdWords Keyword Recommendations, Mobile Products and Search, Consumer & Infrastructure. He has also worked with IBM. He’s currently an advisor with mobile-first solutions provider Phone Warrior, and an investor/advisor with Qikwell and MindTickle.
Founded in 2011 by Bala Parthasarathy, Shripati Acharya and Sanjay Swamy, AngelPrime provides seed capital to startups in the $200,000-$600,000 range and nurtures them for 12-14 months.
