Google 2014 trends: Moto G was top searched device, Elections, Sunny Leone, IRCTC

Google has released its annual analysis of the most searched terms, people, movies, actors, top news, and tech devices with Google Year in Search 2014.

Trending searches:

Elections 2014 was the trending search term on Google India in 2014, followed by FIFA 2014 and iPhone 6. GATE 2015 came in at number four with Narendra Modi coming it at five and IPL 2014 coming in at number six. Bollywood movies also make the list, with Ragini MMS 2 coming in at seventh, Kick at eighth, Jai Ho at ninth and Happy New Year at tenth place.

The most searched for term overall in India this year was IRCTC, with even ‘PNR Status’ making the list at number five. Online e-commerce websites Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon also make the list at second, fourth and tenth place respectively respectively while the classifieds site OLX was placed at eight place. Cricbuzz which was recently acquired by Times Internet is at the seventh place while Times Of India itself is at the ninth place. Besides this, SBI Online features on the list at the third position while HDFC Netbanking is at the sixth position. Interestingly, Google Translate also found a mention at the ninth place.

Most searched people:

Bollywood personalities dominate the list of most searched people in India on Google, led by Sunny Leone at number one, followed by Salman Khan (third), Katrina Kaif (fourth), Deepika Padukone (fifth), Alia Bhatt (sixth), Priyanka Chopra (seventh), Shah Rukh Khan (eighth) and Poonam Pandey (ninth). Non Bollywood personalities to make the list include PM Narendra Modi at the second place and cricketer Virat Kohli at the tenth place.

Most searched Tech devices

The most searched tech device was Moto G, which somewhat brought in a change to the handset ecosystem due to its aggressive pricing. Motorola’s others phones like Moto E and Moto X also found a mention at fourth and ninth place respectively. Apple’s iPhone 6 was the second most searched tech device while iPhone 5 was placed tenth in the list. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 was at the third place while Galaxy Grand was at the eight place. Xiaomi Mi3, which launched in the country this year, secured seventh position while Nokia X and XL was at fifth and sixth position respectively.

Sunny Leone starred Ragini MMS 2 came in first, followed by two Salman Khan starred movies Kick and Jai Ho coming in second and third respectively. Other movies to make the list include Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year, Hrithik starrer Bang Bang, Heropanti, 2 States, Main Tera Hero, Ek Villain and Singham Returns.

Bollywood personalities:

Salman Khan was the top searched for male Bollywood actor, followed by Shah Rukh Khan (second), Akshay Kumar (third), Ranbir Kapoor (fourth), Shahid Kapoor (fifth), Amitabh Bachchan (sixth), Varun Dhawan (seventh), Ranveer Singh (eighth), Fawad Khan (ninth) and Emraan Hashmi (tenth).

Among female Bollywood actors, Katrina Kaif made it to the top of the list with Deepika Padukone coming in second, Alia Bhatt third, Priyanka Chopra fourth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fifth. Others on the list include Kareena Kapoor (sixth), Anushka Sharma (seventh), Shraddha Kapoor (eighth), Sonakshi Sinha (ninth) and Sonam Kapoor (tenth). Strangely, the most searched person Sunny Leone doesn’t find a mention in this list.
