As 2014 draws to an end, Microsoft’s search engine Bing has released its annual analysis of the most searched movies, music, sport persons, celebrities, political leaders and news topics for 10 countries including India at BingTrends.com. The India trends are:
Most searched movies
Bollywood continues to dominate the list of most searched movies in India, with the Akshay Kumar & Sonakshi Sinha starrer Holiday topping the list, followed by Salman Khan’s Kick & Jai Ho. Others in the list include Yaariyan, Ek Villain, Highway, Gunday, Main Tera Hero, Singham Returns and Queen. Surprisingly, Shahrukh Khan’s Happy New Year, which released in October, doesn’t find a place in the top 10.
Most searched sports persons
Sourav Ganguly, who wasn’t in the top 10 last year, is the most searched sports person in India this year. His stint as a commentator & anchor on StarSports channels and his association with the ISL as the co-owner of the football club Atletico de Kolkata are the most likely reasons for his popularity this year. Also, Cricket continues to dominate the list accounting for seven of the top ten positions, which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Sunil Gavaskar & Shikhar Dhawan.
Mary Kom occupies the third position on the back of her gold medal win at the Asian Games and the release of a biopic based on her life starring Priyanka Chopra. Besides this, badminton player Saina Nehwal and veteran tennis player Leander Paes secured the fifth and eighth positions respectively. Interestingly, Sania Mirza, who won the tennis mixed doubles gold at the Asian Games, doesn’t find a mention on this list.

Jayalalithaa, who was recently convicted in a disproportionate assets case & disqualified from holding the office of chief minister, was the second most searched political leader, followed by HRD Minister Smriti Irani in third position.
