Educomp Solutions Limited-owned Educomp Online Supplemental Services Ltd sold its majority shareholding in Gateforum Educational Services Pvt Ltd to ASK Pravi Private Equity Opportunities Fund, the company informed the BSE. ASK Pravi Capital said they would look to leverage Gateforum’s GATE preparation platform and scale it to other test preparation spaces. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Gateforum currently provides classroom-based and distance education courses exclusively for the GATE exam. The institution currently lists an ICP Plus program, which includes classroom coaching and online tutoring for GATE and a DLP Plus program consisting of distance learning modules, live streamed classes and online tests. It also provides an online platform ‘TarGATE’, for students to attend Mock GATE tests online and distributes live video lectures via its eGATE package. The institution also sells a self-branded tablet called the Gtab which comes pre-loaded with recorded lectures, GATE resources, e-study materials etc. on its SD card.

Gateforum claims to have 65 centers in the country catering to over 30,000 enrolled students. It also claims to have trained 1,20,000 students since its inception.

Other developments in the e-learning space:

– The edutainment TV channel, Da Vinci Learning had partnered with Airtel Digital TC, Digicable and Siticable in January this year, to broadcast its content.

– In March, National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) had launched e-learning courses including courses on programming, data structures and algorithms in association with IIT and IISc.

– In the same month, JagranJosh.com launched a new initiative AskJosh which allowed students to interact with its experts via the messaging app, WhatsApp.

– School educational services start-up Zaya Learning Labs had raised an undisclosed amount of investment in May this year from Pearson Affordable Learning Fund.

-Careers360, a career counselling platform had raised an undisclosed amount from five angel investors in June this year.
