Dogspot.in launches self-branded products

dogspot-logoOnline pet shop Dogspot.in has launched a private label product line featuring pet supplies for dogs, cats, birds and small animals. The self-branded products fall under categories like, dog toys, crates and cages, dog grooming, accessories, bowls, and collars, among others. Dogspot.in has also launched products under categories like cat toys, bird toys and beddings for small animals.

The website claims a total of 150+ products across 27 different categories have been launched. However, current listings indicate 94 products across 22 categories.

Last year, Dogspot.in had raised an undisclosed amount in funding from the early stage investor India Quotient. At the time, Dogspot.in co-founder Rana Atheya had told Medianama that they plan to use the funds for product development and launch its own range of products.

Why launch a private label?

Last year, Atheya had told this publication that while Dogspot.in offered products from more than 50 brands on its portal, there was a huge void in terms of product availability for specific requirements. He believed self-branded products would solve this issue.

The company had claimed that it had over 5000 customers for its online pet shop and had delivered more than 15,000 orders across 950 cities in India.

The company says it plans to launch over 1000 products under its private label before the end of the year and to that end, will continue launching new products every month. It claims that prices of all its products will range between Rs 200 and Rs 1,08,333, depending on the category of the product.

Dogspot.in started out as a community driven pet lovers website founded by Rana Antheya, Ankur Tandon and Shailesh Visen. The website initially forayed into e-commerce in 2011 and now offers products in various categories including dog toys, cats, health care, puppy care, dog cleaning, dog training and birds & small pets, among others.

It’s worth noting that Dogspot.in used to power the pet shop section of Ibibo’s online marketplace, Tradus.in, which recently pivoted into a grocery-only marketplace.

Fishspot launch: PetsGlam Services Pvt. Ltd, which operates DogSpot.in, launched a fish-focused online shop called FishSpot.in, last year in August. At present, Fishspot has tie-ups with over 40 brands like Elite, Exo Terra, Glo, Nutrafin, etc.

At the time, the company had also stated plans of launching cat and bird-focused websites over the next few months. We noticed that CatSpot.in and BirdSpot.in are live but neither features a store and the content was last updated way back in 2012.
