According to Naukri.com‘s Job Speak Index, which is an indicator of job listings on its portal, hiring activity in the media sector has declined by 7% month-on-month (MoM) in May 2014 over April 2014. However on a yearly basis, the hiring activity increased by 13% year-on-year for May 2014.
The Job Speak Index for the sector was at 1002 for the month, down from 1072 in April this year but up from 876 in May last year. Note that the index uses the total number of jobs in July 2008 as a base (of 1000).
The overall job speak index however increased to 1600 for the month, up marginally from 1589 in the previous month and up 21.5% from 1317 in May 2013.
Sectors: The IT and ITeS sector witnessed 15% and 10% MoM growth in hiring activity respectively, while the Insurance sector witnessed a significant 30% MoM decline for the month and the telecom sector witnessed an 8% MoM decline for the month.
Cities: Among cities, Chennai witnessed the highest growth of 11% MoM, followed by Hyderabad which saw a 8% increase MoM. Bangalore witnessed a 5% MoM growth while Mumbai saw a 2% MoM growth. Delhi-NCR region and Kolkata however witnessed a decline of 21% and 19% each respectively for the month.
Demand for marketing & advertising professionals dips: The demand for marketing & advertising professional saw a 17% MoM dip for the month while the demand for BPO and IT professional increased by 11% and 10% month-on-month respectively.
