couponduniaTimes Internet recently acquired a majority stake in Coupon Dunia. Medianama spoke to its competitors to find out how the merger affects them and the ecosystem. Excerpts:

How will it impact the kind of deals affiliate marketing companies negotiate with e-commerce companies?

Swati Bhargava – CEO & Co-Founder, Cashkaro.com

Though our value proposition is different with the cashback feature, the acquisition is a positive development for the overall affiliate marketing industry. The combined entity will get marketing support from Times, which will help them grow fast. This leads to more awareness about coupons, deals, cashback and makes retailers realise the value of affiliates. This helps us in negotiating better deals with e-commerce companies. The acquisition clearly shows recognition of the value being generated by our sector. Congratulations to Sameer Parwani and his team. It’s always great to see entrepreneurs succeed.

Ravitej Yadalam – Founder and CEO, Pennyful Online
We do not expect this deal to affect us in anyway. We work with most of them to give cashback rebates and discout coupons to our customers. Real money cashback sets us apart from them and hence this development should not impact us. We believe that customers are in for some good times. Ultimately, every player in the e-commerce segment wants to gain an advantage when it comes to providing customers with the best shopping experience. Such developments are beneficial to both companies and customers.

Bharath Devanathan, COO Groupon APAC – Emerging Markets
The merger has a potential to offer benefit because Coupon Dunia works as an affiliate partner with Groupon. The entry barrier in the coupon business is very low and we see that mergers and collaborations are a common thing in the e-commerce space now. So, the collaboration of times deal with Coupon Dunia did not come as a surprise to us.

Joanna Jaoudie, Country manager India, Flipit
This merger is not going to influence the way we work with e-commerce companies at the moment, but we are always looking for fresh ways to promote the deals that we do get out of our negotiations. As long as we give our users what they’re looking for, Flipit India will continue to grow regardless of external mergers.

How will it impact negotiation with offline players?

Swati Bhargava – CEO & Co-Founder, Cashkaro.com
As of now, we don’t offer many offline deals. In an evolving sector like ours, success for one company always has a positive impact on others in the industry.

Ravitej Yadalam – Founder and CEO, Pennyful Online
We do not deal with any offline players at the moment, apart from medical institutions in the form of MediRupee.com. Hence, again we don’t see an impact here.

Bharath Devanathan, COO Groupon APAC – Emerging Markets
We don’t foresee any change in negotiations with online or offline players.

Joanna Jaoudie, Country manager India, Flipit
We don’t treat our offline partners any differently from our online partners.

Do you plan to offer group deals to customers?
Swati Bhargava – CEO & Co-Founder, Cashkaro.com
We are likely to consider offering high-end group deals and discounts for pre-selected groups.

Ravitej Yadalam – Founder and CEO, Pennyful Online
We do not offer, or plan to offer group deals to our customers.

Joanna Jaoudie, Country manager India, Flipit
Flipit India is currently tailored to suit the individual so that everyone gets what they’re looking for. Any alternatives we plan on integrating for group deals will come later on in the future.

Groupon already offers group deals.
