Harinder Takhar, the head of One97's consumer brand Paytm is relocating to Canada. One97 founder & CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma told Medianama that Takhar will be exploring opportunities for the company in Canada North America. He will be heading it when the company launches in those countries. Takhar had joined as the CEO of Paytm in November 2011. However, Paytm which was previously a whole owned subsidiary of One97 Communications, was merged into the company sometime last year, following which Paytm had become the consumer facing brand of One97 Communications. Earlier in February, Paytm had launched a mobile-only marketplace for physical goods, allowing users to purchase clothes and apparels via mobile phones. This was after securing a prepaid wallet license from RBI in August last year and launching a semi closed wallet in January this year. What's interesting about the marketplace was that it featured an integrated messaging service which allows consumers to bargain with merchants before purchasing a product. This feature was powered by Plustxt which One97 had acquired for $2 million in August 2013. Earlier this week, the company had also added two new categories - Mobile phones and Cameras to its marketplace. It currently claims to offer more than 1,00,000 items from over 250 merchants. Before Paytm, Takhar was serving as the strategic product manager at Research in Motion (now BlackBerry) for about two and a half years. He was also the business development manager for strategy & Nokia Devices at Nokia. He's also had stints at Cadence Design systems and Xs! Corporation.
