Zee Media CEO Alok Agrawal joins Reliance Industries

Alok Agarwal

There seems to be a sudden flurry of senior media executives joining Reliance Industries: Zee Media CEO Alok Agrawal is the latest one. He has quit Zee Media after a stint of about one and a half years.

While Agrawal’s designation is not clear yet, a BestMediaInfo report suggests that he is likely to play a senior role in RIL’s core group which looks after the company’s media initiatives. He has declined to comment on this to the publication. We’ve written to RIL for more details on this and will update once we hear back.

Last month, Sahara News group editor BV Rao had also joined RIL as its News & Communications Director. Rao had previously served as the Editor of Governance Now. He’s also had stints at Mid-Day Delhi, Indian Express Bangalore, Free Press Journal, The Times of India, India Today Group and DNA Mumbai among others.

Former senior television journalist Umesh Upadhayay has also joined the company as its Media Director. He’s previously worked at Janmat TV, Zee News, Doordarshan and PTI.

Navbharat Times journalist Shivendra Singh Chauhan who previously led the India Against Corruption (IAC) campaign, also seems to have joined the company as its New Media strategist as per his Twitter profile.

Last month, Gautam Chikermane had also joined the company as its New Media Director. He is apparently looking after the digital media wing of Reliance Industries and is involved in the roll out of RIL’s media platform. Chikermane was previously the Executive Editor (Business) for Hindustan Times for about five years and was the Editor (Special Projects) at Indian Express for about three years. He has also served as executive editor for the Financial Express and Outlook Money and has 21 years of experience in the media industry.

Meanwhile, there is still no information on when the company is actually looking to launch its 4G services in India.

P.s. If you know anything about RIL’s media initiatives, do let us know in the comments below or through anonymous tipoff.
