January 2014: India Added Over 8.58 Million GSM Connections

The Cellular Operators Association of India (which includes most of India’s GSM telecom operators), has reported an addition of 8.58 million GSM connections in January 2014, closing in at 703.4 million connections, a 1.24% increase from 694.8 million connections in the previous month.

GSM operator and circle-wise data (excluding Reliance and Tata):

Coai Jan 2014 Telco

– Bharti Airtel added 2.43 million connections in January, taking its connection base to 200.83 million.
– Vodafone added 1.78 million connections in January, taking its connection base to 162.18 million.
– Idea Cellular added 1.53 million connections in January, taking its connection base to 130.21 million.

– Among metro circles, Delhi added 348,323 GSM connections, with Kolkata adding 250,519 GSM connections.

Note that no information has been provided about the active users, which we’ll probably get once the telecom regulator TRAI releases data for the entire industry.
