2.50 Million Mobile Number Portability Requests In India In December 2013

Porting requests were submitted for 2.50 million connections in the month of December 2013, according to the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI. This is a 19.79% increase from 2.09 million porting requests reported in November 2013.

India has a total mobile connection base of 886.29 million connections (762.39 million active).

For the month of December, the maximum number of requests in Zone-I (North and West India) were received in Rajasthan at 0.29 million, followed by Gujarat at 0.21 million and Maharashtra at 0.15 million. Jammu & Kashmir which has one of the lowest user base, continues to receive the lowest number of porting requests at 652. Note that TRAI has not provided any operator-wise breakdown for these number porting requests.

In Zone-II (South and East India), Andhra Pradesh leads with 0.26 million number porting requests till date, followed by Karnataka which received 0.24 million requests and Tamil Nadu which received 0.14 million requests. North East Circle saw only 5,722 number porting requests for the month, up from 3,697 requests in the previous month.
