Spuul UTV

Online video streaming service Spuul has inked a content deal with Disney UTV to strengthen its Bollywood movie catalogue.

As part of the deal, Spuul will be offering 11 movie titles from UTV Motion pictures to all Spuul subscribers in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Among titles offered include Chennai Express, Race 2, Luv Shuv Te Chicken Khurana, Barfi, Ghanchakkar, Rowdy Rathore, Heroine, ABCD, Kai Po Che and others. The deal period or the terms of the partnership were however not disclosed.

In addition to this, we also noticed that Spuul seems to have added more TV shows from Star TV India and ETV television channels to its catalogue over the past few months. The company had earlier inked a tie up with Star TV India to stream 11 Star Plus shows 30 minutes after their TV broadcast in India. Following this, it had also inked an agreement with TV18 and Viacom18′s content asset monetization joint venture IndiaCast, to offer TV shows from Colors, MTV India and ETV television channels.

What’s worth noting here is Spuul’s focus on providing fresh content like latest movie titles or television shows. Last month, it had inked tie-ups to premiere small budget movies like Club 60 and Jackpot on the day of its theatrical release overseas and stream it to Indian users within two weeks of its theatrical release.

In contrast, Times Internet’s BoxTV seems to be primarily going after classic and niche content while Reliance Group’s video streaming service BigFlix‘s catalogue comprises mainly of old movie titles. Eros International’s online paid movie streaming service Eros Now which had strangely inked a content deal with UTV & Viacom 18 last September, has also been quite disappointing until now.

The elephant in the room, Google’s YouTube offers a mixture of new and old movie titles, although its TV catalogue is significantly more extensive than Spuul.
