The Department of Telecom has issued 2.2 crore mobile numbers to Reliance Jio, which is planning to launch 4G services in India soon, according to a PTI report. RJIL has Unified Licence which allows it to provide mobile phone services as well and is the only company that has pan-India broadband wireless access spectrum that can be used for 4G services. The company had recently tied-up with Airtel to share infrastructure (optic fibre, submarine cable network, towers) and spectrum (2G, 3G, 4G ropaming data). This was essentially an expansion of an earlier partnership between Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel in April this year, for international data connectivity. Jio also has an agreement with Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications for sharing its nationwide inter-city fibre optic network infrastructure, and tower infrastructure within India.
